Observe the rules of agricultural technology to save pepper from stem rot. The disease begins near the surface of the soil and gradually spreads throughout the plant. It can affect both the stem and the green mass.
Before starting the fight against infection, you should make sure the diagnosis is correct. It is difficult to confuse stem rot with other diseases. On the stems, it forms brown spots with hollows, which gradually increase in size. At the peak of the disease, areas with rot begin to encircle the plant; a scattering of small brown spots is observed on the foliage.
The disease begins with the appearance of a whitish coating on the plant. If it is found,
it is necessary to immediately begin the treatment of plantings. First of all, stop watering and spraying. Then carefully ventilate the greenhouse or greenhouse.
All leaves and stepsons that are located on the stems before the first branch, you
need to cut.
To do this, use scissors or a knife with a sharp blade. Place the sections sprinkled with ash or crushed activated carbon for disinfection.
The whitish coating must be washed off.
For this purpose, a concentrated solution of potassium permanganate is prepared. Pounded chalk is added to it. The result should be a pasty slurry, suitable for putty.
Using a foam sponge, the plaque is carefully removed and the affected areas
are smeared with the prepared paste. If there is no chalk, it is successfully replaced with wood ash. First, a whitish film is washed off with a bright pink solution of potassium permanganate. Then sprinkle all the affected areas with ash.
To avoid the emergence of stem rot on the beds with pepper, it is necessary to fully implement crop rotation rules when planting vegetables.
In greenhouses and greenhouses, it is required to adhere to optimal air temperature indicators. At + 15 ° С, the growth of the culture begins to slow down significantly, and at + 10 ° С it completely stops. In order for the stands to actively develop and feel great, the air temperature inside the structure should be + 22 … + 24 ° С.
Periodic dressing will also help to avoid the spread of the disease. Infection only affects weakened plants that lack nutrients to fight the infection.
To prepare the mineral composition, 10 g of saltpeter, 25-35 g of any
complex preparation, 20 g of superphosphate granules and 10-15 g of potassium salt are mixed . All
components are diluted in 5 l of settled or rain water. For 1 bush, it is enough to
use 400-500 ml of solution. Fertilize under the root, pre-abundantly watering the beds. This will help protect the root system of plants from the appearance of burns.
If the plant is not prone to pruning and it gradually builds up a lush and dense green mass, the risk of stem rot is sharply increased.
Pepper needs the formation of a crown. Only the 3 strongest branches leave. The remaining stepsons are completely removed.
When the crown is thickened after the first branch, all unnecessary branches are also removed. The bush should be well ventilated, and its middle should be accessible to sunlight.
If the pepper is tall, it is recommended to tie it up. To do this, build a
special trellis and fix the bush under the first branch. Each shoot is
tied to a support separately, thereby ensuring a secure fit.
